Q: How do I apply for a job?

A: You must submit a City of Morganton application to the HR Department by the deadline listed in order to be considered for a job.

You can download an application here, you can pick up an application in the HR Department at City Hall or you can request one be sent to you via telephone or letter.

Q: What type of pre-employment checking and testing is required by the City?

A: The City performs background and reference checks on applicants being considered for employment. Once a candidate has been tentatively selected, a conditional offer of employment is made. Following the conditional offer of employment, a medical pre-screen and drug/alcohol test is scheduled for the candidate.

Q: As a current employee, do I have to complete another application to apply for a promotion or transfer?

A: Yes, you do. Do I have to go through another medical pre-screen and drug/alcohol test?  Yes, you do.

Q: How can I make personnel (name, address, telephone number) or payroll (tax exemptions, insurance coverage, beneficiaries) changes?

A: Personnel type changes by completing the appropriate form in HR. Payroll-type changes dealing with taxes and 401K/457 changes can also be made by completing the appropriate paperwork. Q: What kind of insurance do we have, who is it with and how does it work? How do I file claims, get pre-certifications and get questions answered?
