08/10/11 BB Gun Vandals Caught

On 10-08-2011 at 12:20 a.m. Morganton Public Safety Officers responded to a Burglar alarm at Sally’s Beauty Supply in the Magnolia Plaza Shopping Center, 1239 Burkemont Avenue.

Upon arrival, Major Ronnie Rector observed that two windows had been shattered but had not been completely broken out. Further investigation revealed that the windows had been shot by either a BB or Pellet gun. It was also found that one window at the Dragon Garden Restaurant and two windows in an adjacent, vacant business, were also damaged in a similar manner.

PSO Nathan Moore and PSO Shane Fulp arrived and noticed a group of individuals congregating around a vehicle in the parking area in front of the businesses; thinking they may have witnessed the incident the officers went to question them. As PSO Moore questioned the subjects about what they had seen, PSO Fulp observed, in plain view, a container of BBs in the front floor area and several loose BBs on the seat of a vehicle owned by Chase Anderson. A further search of the vehicle was completed by PSO Moore and a BB/Pellet pistol was located under the seat. Christopher Hanlon of 102 Du Mont Dr., Morganton, NC admitted to ownership of the gun.

The owner of the gun gave a written statement and William Thomas Hall of 797 Fortune Rd., Union Mills, NC was subsequently questioned about his involvement in the incident. Hall admitted to shooting the windows and was arrested for Damage to Real Property. He was placed in the Burke Catawba Detention Facility under a $6000 secured bond. Damages were estimated at $1000 to $1500.
