NC House introduces bill giving sales tax option to cities

A bill introduced by leaders in state House of Representatives would allow cities and counties to enact their own quarter-cent sales tax and put funds raised by that tax directly into local coffers.

The bill, House Bill 903, was introduced by House Finance Chairman Jason Saine, who represents Lincoln County. One purpose of the bill is “to enable cities to maintain their level of service by providing a replacement source of revenue for the repealed city privilege license tax,” and it allows more local control, Saine said.

Temporary water shut off planned for Bouchelle Street Tuesday

water shut off 256pxThe City of Morganton Water Resources Department will temporarily shut off water on Bouchelle Street Tuesday morning, April 28, 2015, weather permitting. Water Resources workers need to replace a fire hydrant and a waterline valve. The water shut off will occur from about 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, barring any unforeseen problems. About 35 to 40 homes on Bouchelle from Patterson Street to Roper Street will be affected by the shut off. For more information, call the City of Morganton Water Resources department at 828-438-5276.
